SOSi is seeking an Operations Specialist to augment its corporate staff in Reston, VA.  The Operations Specialist will join the Mission Solutions Group (MSG) business unit to primarily assist the corporate office’s day-to-day functions.


  • Manages the procurement/requisition of materials
  • Monitoring the processes of such in support its operations in Iraq
  • Responsible for procurement actions and research, as well as handling all shipping of materials and equipment to Iraq in support of the MSG-I program
  • Monitors all requisition actions, from initiation to completion, to ensure timely and accurate executions of purchase requisitions and shipments for the business unit
  • Plans, drafts, coordinates, and synchronizes all MSG-I operations related to purchasing and shipping policies, procedures, and planning
  • Develops purchase requisitions (PR) and uploads the associated information into Costpoint accounting system for approval and purchase
  • Maintains strong communications with relevant stakeholders, in both Reston and Iraq, for accurate data transcription, as well as ensure the appropriate materials are purchased 
  • Effectively manages data to ensure all deadlines pertaining to purchasing materials are met
  • Creates and maintains accurate databases on purchasing actions, status updates, shipments, and prepares and presents designated reports to management addressing such actions
  • Evaluates each step of the project software data entry process to ensure it meets administrative and operational requirements. 
  • Accurately accounts for item descriptions/cataloging and specific cost code identification/input 
  • Develop standard operating procedures pertaining to the purchasing of materials to establish consistency within the business unit
  • Identifies shortfalls and provides recommendations on how to streamline and enhance processes within scope of responsibility
  • Interacts across departments to find solutions to operational issues
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • High school diploma required. Bachelor’s degree preferred 
  • Two (2) or more years of progressive experience in operations management, training/assessment programs, or related operations; experience in overseas contingency operations preferred
  • Proficiency in computer software, such as Maximo, Deltek, and Costpoint required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel and Outlook required
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational and written/oral communication skills 
  • Strong detail-orientation and ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently, as needed
  • Interpersonal and customer service skills are necessary
  • Ability to multi-task 
  • Demonstrate the ability to work with a diverse work group of stakeholders


  • Fluency in a foreign language
  • Willingness to live and work under environmental and other conditions that may be uncomfortable at times
  • Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions
  • Requires periods of non-traditional hours including consecutive nights or weekends when necessary 
  • May require ability to lift/and or move objects or packages of up to 25 lbs.
