SOS International LLC (SOSi) is seeking a full-time Afghan Language Specialist/Cultural Advisor for on-site interpretation and translation services. We are looking for an individual with skills in Pashto, Dari, and Farsi. Personnel can expect to be deployed to Afghanistan and will live and work in an area designated by the U.S. Government as an Imminent Danger and Hostile Fire Zone.
• Current DOD Secret Clearance • Fluency and literacy in Pashto, Dari, and English with the ability to score at least 3+ on the Inter agency Language Round table (ILR) scale for English and 4 for Pashto and Dari• Understands both the American and Afghanistan cultures and be open-minded and committed to working towards a free and democratic Afghanistan• Understands speech (in a standard dialect), inferences, and emotional overtones and rarely needs to ask for paraphrasing or explanation• Writes effectively in most formal and informal exchanges• Understands all styles/forms of speech and has a strong sensitivity to social linguistic and cultural references• Able to deal unobtrusively with the local populace• Familiarity with and ability to conduct oneself in accordance with the local culture and customs• Works cooperatively with U.S. Forces, and other Coalition forces and personnel• Functions during a level of heightened state of threat, during extended periods of high pressure and stress• Functions as an integral member of a team of highly trained professionals responsible for the safety and security of personnel and resources• Able to use Microsoft Office
WORK ENVIRONMENT• Personnel will work in harsh and austere locations in Afghanistan• Ability to lift and/or move objects or packages of up to 25 lbs• Work environment is often stressful and detail oriented
